Courthouse Commons Shopping Center

James City County, Virginia
Size:
Completed: Expected Nov 2013

As the first building, The Fresh Market and adjacent in-line shops needed to set the tone for the remaining buildings. The central entrance portico was designed to have both a sense of grandeur and be inviting and approachable. Beyond the portico, a gabled edifice rises above and brings natural light deep into the interior of the retail space. The in-line stores to either side of The Fresh Market are punctuated by small slope-roofed pavilions, giving the entire building composition a sense of cohesion and hierarchy. Phase Two of Courthouse Commons Retail Development consists of two separate buildings, with parking between them. Designed to complement the architecture of phase one, it is home to several businesses which themselves complement one another. Phases 3 and 4 will complete the development. They include an additional set of retail shops and the first Williamsburg branch of Monarch Bank.
