The Williamsburg Running Center | virtual visit

James City County Parks and Recreation has presented a Master Plan for the Warhill District Park that includes a Running Center, to be constructed in the park by the Rick Platt Foundation. Rick Platt is a fixture in the local running community. After running track and cross country for the College of William & Mary, he became active organizing running events in Williamsburg and the peninsula and soon became the leading advocate for the running movement locally.

The proposed Running Center building, designed by Hopke & Associates, will be a base of operations for the many running events that are currently hosted in the area and region (the Warhill 8k, the WISC Mad Dash 5k, and the Ellen Womeldorf Ultramarathon). Currently, many of these events start and finish at Warhill Sports Complex. Some are run entirely on park property. With the new Running Center, it is anticipated that additional events will be relocated to the park or started anew.
